Basic Mountaineering Course + Summit 4D/3N

This course is for those who want to practice mountaineering skills in a controlled environment. The location for the course is Cerro Soray close to Nevado Salkantay. The itinerary can be flexible depending on what kind of activity you would like to work on. The course will finish with a climb of Cerro Soray (5,446mts).

Itinerary:

Day 1 Cusco – Soray Pampa
We leave Cusco at 10am in an express van and arrive to Tinqui in the afternoon. From there we take a taxi to the herding community of Pacchanta (4236m) and spend the night in a local house close to geothermal baths.
Day 2 Soray Pampa (3,900mts) – Base Camp (4,924mts)
After breakfast we will hike up to the base camp and practice tying in, knots and review some basic mountaineering knowledge.
Day 3 Glacier Practice
This day we will go up to the glacier and practice aspects of mountaineering such as rope management, self-arrests, axe and crampon technique and route finding.
Day 4 Cerro Soray climb & return to Cusco
We will leave the tent at 3am in order to arrive at the summit early, around 7am. After enjoying the views we will descend to camp, pack up and go further down to Soray Pampa. From here we take a truck down to Mollepata and then a van to Cusco in the evening.

Included in the trip:

  • Expedition & Climbing Equipment (Tents, Crampons, Ice Axe, Harness, Helmet, etc.)
  • Food (Lunch Day 1 to Lunch Day 4)
  • 1 High Mountain Guide per 3 clients

You will need:

  • clothing for cold and rain
  • waterproof hiking boots
  • headlamp
  • sleeping bag
  • backpack
  • sunglasses
  • sunscreen

No mountaineering experience required. You should be in good physical condition and acclimatized (3 days in Cusco). You will need cold weather clothing and some type of rain protection clothing is recommended. A good pair of hiking or mountaineering boots (waterproof) is required and will be fit with our adjustable crampons.
