Luis is one of my most trusted friends and climbing partners who I have shared many summits with. He is also one of the best climbers born in Peru, with many achievements to his name, most notably being the first Peruvian to make the summit of the famous mountain Siula Grande. Luis and his family live in the village of Pacchanta, at the foot of Mount Ausangate and belong to an incredible community of alpaca herders. He has worked in tourism since he was 12 years old, is an elite cook in the backcountry, and jack of all trades. He named me Godfather of his youngest daughter Veronica who I sponsor to go to a private school so she can get a better education.
